CLASSICAL TO WORLD LANGUAGES
Faculty Leadership and Service
Administrators across 116 years were devoted to building--and maintaining--the status and the reputation of the Teacher Preparation program as one of the best in the nation. To that end, Lab School faculty were encouraged to bring attention to their teaching by participating in local, state, national, and international organizations in their respective disciplines. For many years travel money was available and long term substitutes were kept on staff. The faculty responded.
Through board memberships; holding offices; attending and presenting at state, regional, national and international meetings; editing news-letters; organizing conferences; contributing to publications; and more, faculty both gained ideas for curriculum development and shared their work in their classrooms with colleagues. For instance, they were frequently called upon to demonstrate how to teach using new standards and ideas developed by the organizations. They were ambassadors for the institution.
